Event Marketing

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Hosting or sponsoring events is a fantastic way of keeping in touch with existing contacts and for making new ones. When you look at the cost of hosting an open house, seminar, sporting event, or party, and the buzz it can create in the marketplace, it’s a surefire advertising method that’s sadly too often overlooked. Of course, you need to make your event relevant to your target market or you’re just wasting time and money. Here are some other event marketing ideas, and their benefits — tailor your events to your business, market, and overall marketing strategy:

  • Community events: create customer loyalty, sends the right message, demonstrates civic involvement, accomplishes a good thing.
  • Shopping Events: target specific customers, they arrive in a spending mindset - and invite friends.
  • “A Night at the …”: movies, bowling, carnival, circus, opera, theater, target specific customers or groups, can be a fundraising event, free event, event with purchase, very customizable.
  • Festivals: whether you celebrate a season, a wine or food, or just fun for families, festival marketing opens doors for your company to shine in a new light in your community.
  • “An Evening with…” an actor, writer, singer, musician, businessman, local DJ, sports figure, or group. Smaller venue market, by invitation only - exclusivity, builds a brand of high level connections people want to be a part of.

Seek out co-sponsors and donations of goods or services from contacts. This will not only cut your costs, but it strengthens relationships. Don’t forget to brand your event to coincide with your company’s existing brand. When planning an event, keep track of costs and be ready with a follow-up campaign for converting the leads into sales. Done correctly by planning and executing well, event marketing can have a great impact on your company’s lead generation and sales figures.

Business After Hours? No, Business Anytime!

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Tonight we attended a Business After Hours networking event sponsored by BB&T and the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. We try our best to take advantage of each of these opportunities to meet other local business people, to connect with future prospects and referral sources, to learn what companies are out there in the community, and of course, to talk about our business. Today, we had the pleasure of meeting some new people, and connecting with some familiar faces.

The variety of small and medium businesses represented is pretty impressive for Cherokee county, Georgia. Because Inspired 2 Design is an Advertising Agency, we try to learn a little about each person’s business, who their customer is, and what their expectation is for the event. If there’s time, we also like to talk to them about what advertising they’re currently doing in the Atlanta area, and in Cherokee county specifically. We do this to see where their needs are, who we could refer to them, and how we could help them promote their business.

We also look for opportunities in networking to develop symbiotic relationships with other local businesses. For instance, we offer multimedia services, but we don’t have our own sound stage here. Tonight we met David from RPM who does. Connecting with this company helps us to provide even better service to our clients looking for multimedia and video for CDs, trade shows, sales meetings, product demos, even commercials. Maybe RPM has need of graphic design, 3D modeling, titles, script writing, or web development — all of which we can provide to them and their clients. Hence the symbiotic relationship building. This type of connection is good for both companies, but more importantly, it’s good for our clients.

Some of the other networking connections we made tonight: Leanne from Decorating Den, Susan and Linda from BB&T, Ernie from Health-Sprout, Marci from A Love of Travel, Angela from Canton Georgia Directory, Michael from Coldwell Banker, Kathy from First Cherokee State Bank, Pat from Northwestern Mutual, Jules from Keller Williams, Sandy from AFLAC, Melody from Just Driver Training, Pell the P.I., and others, including the outstanding Chamber staff. We’re very fortunate to have such an active Chamber of Commerce. Their energy, enthusiasm, support, and general good nature make working with them for the local business community here in Cherokee county a real pleasure.

Take advantage of networking events in your business community. Look for chances to refer prospects to the contacts you meet, look for opportunites to develop symbiotic business relationships, and do business anytime!
